Our Core Values – #2 Integrity

Last week we introduced our first core value of Results. The second Grail Core Value is Integrity. Integrity is defined as, “The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.”  As a veteran of the Air Force, integrity is a quality that was instilled in me, not only as a person, but as a critical team value. Without integrity you cannot count on those around you and without that trust the community fails.

At CrossFit Grail we know that community is a differentiator in CrossFit that keeps members engaged and accountable. Keeping our integrity, which also is defined as, “the state of being whole and undivided”, is the strength that we need to keep coming back day after day leading to results.

In the Globo-gym world, many of us have experienced the unethical behavior of romancing members into long term contracts. When we opened the Grail, we modeled our business around results, and if we were confident in that approach, then why would we need contracts? Why trap people into long term contracts that do nothing but supplement the few people who do come? We could offer month-to-month, with 30-day cancellations which would still allow us to manage our income expectations. Additionally, we would allow people to put their memberships on hold. We would treat our members how we would want to be treated.

We knew that this model would create more risk for us. We knew it would create loop-holes for those willing to exploit it. A community is always at risk from those without integrity, so we made a commitment to ourselves to protect our community at the expense of our revenue. We will always pick our core values over profit. Without our integrity, facing the community each day would not be possible. After all, the community is what brings us to our final Core Value.
