November 2017 Athlete of the Month

As a new CrossFit Box, we are all getting to know each other and building that tight community we always envisioned.  Each month we profile a CrossFit Grail Athlete that is interesting and inspirational. A person that demonstrates a positive attitude, shows up every day and puts their heart and soul into their workout, never gives up, cheers everyone on and is passionate about the CrossFit Grail Community. And someone who is pretty cool! Although we think everyone has these qualities, we can only pick one.

November 2017 Athlete of the Month: Traci Duncan

Why we chose Traci: Traci tried one of our opening weekend free classes. When I talked to her after, she was difficult to read. I wasn’t sure if she if she even liked the class. But sure enough, a couple days later she joined CrossFit Grail and got started with On Ramp classes. Traci had a QUEST: “To be able to climb the steep mountain we hunt in every year, with ease. (Cardiac Ridge). I want to climb it without having to stop due to loss of breath, pain, or mobility problems.” Sure enough, Traci achieved her Quest a few short months later and even ahead of hunting season! She always has a smile on her face, combined with a look of intense concentration & determination. Traci continues to set goals for herself and we know she will continue to crush every one of them.

Tell us a little about yourself:
I grew up in Northern California but my family is all from Wisconsin, which is why I am a Packers fan and why in 2009 I decided to move to a central state with four seasons.  I work as an office manager with my husband who owns a Commercial Collection firm and I love every aspect of my job. Other than working together, we love to golf, travel, go to any kind of sports games and concerts together and, of course, prepare and go out to hunt. He has two sons who I am happy to say are like my own and we have three fur babies.  If we aren’t out on one of our adventures, you can find me with my nose in a book.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and what got you started?
I have been doing CrossFit for 6 months. I decided to start after many years of considering it while doing the Paleo and Whole30 lifestyle. I saw a blurb about a new box opening and decided to try it out – I loved the first BootCamp class I did and decided then and there that Grail was the place for me!

What did you do for your fitness before CrossFit?
Before CrossFit I was doing mostly cardio workouts in the way of walking, hiking and running.

What do you like most about CrossFit?
I love the variety. I love that every day is something different and it always pushes me further than I think I can go.

How has doing CrossFit changed your life outside of the Box?
Well first, I was so much stronger than I have ever been to go hunting! From hiking up the mountain to carrying out the meat, I loved how strong I was. I have also been more motivated to eat better and to work out more.

What motivates you to keep WOD-ing?
The small changes I have already made – I know will just continue to get better – from seeing more definition in my arms, to being able to run longer than I have before.

What are your 3 favorite CrossFit movements?
Box Jumps, Push Presses, Front Squats

What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment?
Being happily married and successful.

This month
: CRUSH my 60-burpee time
This year: Continue to grow stronger not only physically, but also in my faith and relationships. I would also love to be able to do a Tough Mudder and hike a 14er
This lifetime: My husband and I have a bucket list to go to every NFL stadium and to golf in every state.
