It is almost November and this of course means it is time to show your manhood and support for men’s health issues by celebrating No Shave November & ‘Movember.’ What’s the difference?
Movember: simply grow a mustache. The Movember Foundation donates the money it raises to projects and programs related to prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health issues. It aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths.
No Shave November: just stop shaving (and women can do this too if you want!). Goal is to “grow awareness for men’s cancer by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose.”
These movements encourage men (and women) to donate the money they would have otherwise spent on shaving-related products (shave cream, razors), a waxing appointment, or even a haircut to the American Cancer Society (No Shave November) or the Movember Foundation. Visit their websites to learn more and get involved.
At CrossFit Grail, one of our core values is giving back, and men’s health issues are important and under-supported. Men die earlier but women’s health gets four times more funding. So, at a minimum, let’s celebrate and bring some awareness by growing amazing staches and facial hair.
There are no prizes here, just raising awareness for men’s health issues. As the month goes on, post pics in the FB Community page of your amazing facial hair with the hashtag #Movember and/or #NoShaveNovember. We expect to see some glorious glitter and baubles on those beards by the end of the month!
